Personal Health Update: Making lemonade out of lemons
Last week I was as very quiet on social media. Yes, there was a lot going on with work, but I also was very distracted by personal things. Last week I finally went to see a nutritionist concerning some health issues that I have been having for over a year now, and quite frankly, it was getting to a point that I was getting scared. Foods that I have been able to enjoy suddenly would make it very difficult to breathe, while others would make the roof of my mouth swell and hurt. I have always considered myself a fairly healthy individual. Juicing almost daily, and eating clean and whole foods -very rarely would I allow myself anything processed. However, about 3 years ago I noticed that I had peaked in my health, and then for the past year, I watched my health get worse. I felt like more and more foods started to upset my stomach, and my menu became quite exclusive. I would get random rashes on my neck and back and could not figure out why or what I exposed myself to. Overall it was very frustrating, not just because so much of my symptoms were caused by an unknown source -but because of all the health measures and precautions that I have strictly been following for year did not seem to help!
So finally, as I mentioned, this past week I found a nutritionist that I could meet with to see what was going on. To make a long story short I was diagnosed with a list of things, here are a few of the major concerns and diagnosis:
GI hypoglycemia (poor gut health)
So what in layman’s terms does all this mean? Basically, because everything is connected, there is a lot for me to work on… But how did my healthy body get here in such a state that I am now needing to do a major rehabilitation? Well, the main thing is - I am not balanced. I am a very extreme person, and when it comes to health risk cancer is my top, thus for the past 5 years, I have been eating as a cancer patient would - fighting to alkalize my body. Because it is believed that cancer cannot live in an alkaline body. However, I do not have cancer, so my body did not need to be alkaline all the time, in fact, it actually needs some acidity to break down foods to keep my body balanced…. Oy. I need more acidity in order to properly process my foods, one of the clues that my body doesn’t have enough acid is all the allergies that I have been developing. Because my stomach was so low in acidity, not everything was getting broken down as it should, and the result was chunks of food entering my bloodstream and my body attacking it as if it were an intruder. -Thus developing a food allergy.
Also, due to all the juicing my blood sugar was thrown way off! Almost to the point of being pre-diabetic. Thus, I am now needing to cut out all fruit and carbs (anything that can turn into a sugar) for nearly 2 months while taking different supplements to try to balance my blood sugar. And to be honest, I am now on day 3 of this detox, and I am not a very nice person at the moment. I am now suffering the effects of low blood sugar and it sucks. I have no motivation, and I am angry... at everything. Yeah, not fun.
So basically I have laid this all out on the table for the world to see. I am going to be using my Instagram stories to be updated with a daily process of eating and how I feel. Like in all of life, there is never a convenient time to be sick, and I am about to travel through the middle east and parts of Asia, so I am hoping that I am able to eat while traveling. It has been always difficult to find whole foods in new locations, and now that my diet is even more limited for the next 2 months, I am hoping against all hopes that I am able to stick with it! But I am so thankful to have been able to catch all this now, before something more serious had developed.
